Art and life have always been synonymous to Liz. Just about every memory from childhood to present revolves around one art project or another. From John Nagy Learn-To-Draw sets at six, to creating bulletin boards for her mother’s classroom to earn an allowance as a teen, art has long been her avocation as well as vocation.
What to study in college was never a question. Liz received her BFA in Graphic Design from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. From there, she took the long and winding road through graphic design, advertising, freelance illustration, and motherhood that has finally landed her on the doorstep of children’s publishing.
Her bright, whimsical mixed media style, once deemed “not sophisticated enough” for editorial illustration, has found a happy and receptive audience in the children’s educational and book markets. Liz has illustrated several early readers for Harcourt School Publishers, as well as board books for Zonderkidz, Price Stern Sloan and Rising Moon. Current titles include Hey Diddle Diddle ( by Theresa Howell, 2006 Rising Moon), Christmas Surprises! (by Kelli Chipponeri, 2002 PSS), Oh Chanukah! (by L. J. Goodman, 2003 PSS), and a new seasonal series by David Steinberg for PSS that includes The Turkey Ball (2005), and soon to be released, The Witches’ Ball (2007), and The Snow Ball (2007).
Liz lives in the Atlanta area where she shares a somewhat empty nest with her husband, 2 nutty springer spaniels, and a crazy cat-dog named Max. She is an active member of the SCBWI, and is currently writing as well as illustrating several of her own picturebooks.
Liz is represented by The Neis Group.
